HOMELAND INITIATIVE
Dear Patriot,
Nigeria – Homeland. Though many things have gone wrong but as long as Nigeria remains a nation, we have hope. And hope does not exist by itself; hope exists in people and with people – those who dare to keep hope alive in the midst of seeming and glaring hopelessness.
Today, I arise as a patriot to do something. Now, I write you and a number of others because I perceive you to be a dealer of hope; one who has not lost hope and will not lose hope in the Homeland – fatherland Nigeria. The only thing I could wish for myself now is Homeland transformation.
There are many people like you in the Diaspora – mentors, protégées, friends, relatives, classmates, colleagues, etc – who have passion for Homeland and would want to be part of something strategic and noble that is geared towards Homeland Development and Transformation. To this end I am inspired to come up with a formally organized platform where the passionate Nigerians in the Diaspora can really and strategically initiate developmental objectives for Homeland Transformation.
Also, there are so many thousands of Nigerians out there in the Diaspora who are more than willing to reach out to Homeland only if they can just find a trusted, focused, visionary, accountable, and purpose driven platform that will provide the strategic framework. As I write, I do not know them and they do not know me but I hope our paths will cross soon and I know friends like you can do something to facilitate that. Please, do if you can.
I therefore decided to start this journey of purpose, passion and patriotism with about 100 of my friends, relatives, schoolmates, associates, colleagues, mentors, etc, most of who have known me for at least 10 years and can attest to my character, capacity and competences to run such a much needed organized platform where Nigerians in the Diaspora can reach out to the Homeland.
Our vision is to increase participation to 1,000 in 2 years and to 10, 000 in 5 years. We believe as results and trust abound, participation will increase the more.
Dear Patriot, please, kindly read through the attached vision cast, and consider our humble request that you be our Partner.
Thank you for keeping Hope Alive.
Sincerely,
Oluwole Osunmakinde
TCU PROCEDURES
We have taken so much time to study extensively on a few nations that got transformed from being a third world to first world. We found out that their transformations stemmed from four coordinates. These are Leadership, Entrepreneurship, Citizenship and Personal Development (LEC_PD). Now, they have stable government with the rule of law presiding; High standard of living; High HDI; High GDP; High literacy rate; High life expectancy, etc.
Leadership
Until leadership becomes original rather than conventional or imitating, it will not be effective. For it to be original it must be birthed and for it to be birthed, it must be rightly conceived. And for it to be rightly conceived, it must be correctly perceived.
True leadership is birthed from a change from within that is generated by a change of ideals, values and paradigms. That transformation from within individuals is what will pave way for the national transformation. The way to change the trajectories of our leadership is to simply change the coordinates.
There are at least 10 key elements of a real leadership:
Self discovery
Self development
Self starting
Self government
Self confidence
Self examination
Selflessness
Self analysis – SWOT
Self sacrifice
Self actualization
It all begins by letting individuals understand their potentials from the bases of these ten elements. This strategic leadership education is what the Homeland Initiatives is set to make available to the Nigeria younger generation, to start with.
Homeland needs one fundamental key to national transformation – true leadership. The earlier we begin to raise real leaders, the sooner we begin to experience transformation.
One major way we have got leadership wrong in Nigeria is that the so called leaders are breeding followers by every means whereas true leaders breed leaders. In effect, leadership vacuum is widened. Homeland Initiatives is set to fill that vacuum.
Again, Nigeria is ever shopping for good leadership at the poles but unfortunately, they are not produced at the poles; they can only be produced for the poles. This is why we are resolved to radically face the leadership question. Your support in this regard is what we need and you will be glad you did.
With your support, we will be rolling out a number leadership series that are specially crafted to close the widening leadership vacuum in Nigeria. We have tested some of the leadership modules in our training programmes and we are amazed at the impact and the feedbacks. It is indeed shocking how many of our upward mobile young professionals know so little about the principles and practice of transformational leadership. We just have to do something.
Entrepreneurship
Entrepreneurship is another major aspect of our quest for national transformation we need to work on really. Just like leadership, entrepreneurship must be redefined and reinvented at every level, most especially with the younger Nigerians. We need to teach our population bulk how to be enterprising the right ways and the right reasons – not only for personal ends but also for national ends.
Real entrepreneurship is an informed undertaking and not the regular freestyle, freelance and freehand business interests we mostly see around here. It is rather adding values and creating economic advantages at every point of the value chain.
For example many folks in Nigeria have done excellently well in up scaling and upgrading our fashion industry – amazing imaginations and brilliant creativity. However, most of these revolve around designing and sewing. We can say up to 90% of the materials – fabrics and accessories – are still imported. A great deal of the value chain is missing here. That alone is putting our economy in a disadvantage. Real entrepreneurs must rise up to fill that value vacuum.
Real entrepreneurs can always begin by inventing products, services and solutions that add values and create economic advantages in an aspect of the value chain but ultimately seek to do same in the other aspects of the value chain if not all. This will be the basis of our approach in raising entrepreneurs in Homeland Initiatives.
Entrepreneurship is an informed blend of potentials, pursuits and prudence – a purposeful and intelligent process optimization of the providence of time, means and opportunities. It is about seeking all round values to put people and places in economic advantage.
Entrepreneurship is not just an innovation born out of motivation; it is a vocation born out of inspiration.
When entrepreneurship is well taught and understood, it becomes a specialized intelligence that breeds competence and confidence. With such, things can shift from the grassroots to the global scale for a nation. That shift is what is simply called national transformation.
Our starting point is simple: To start taking the ownership of the 10 Things We Use Everyday - Food Items, Fabrics, Fuel, Cars, Paper, Phones, Drugs, Electronics, Ceramics, Wood. They are mostly imported as at today.
National Transformation begins with taking ownership of our basic needs . . . . .
The things we use or consume every day . . . . All made in NIGERIA. To take ownership of these, we need Patriots who will dare to be Pioneers, Pathfinders and Producers - the real entrepreneurs.
Obviously, we may not attempt all the value chain in the listed ten; we will begin with some, especially from where we are now.
So our assignment here will be raising and nurturing Pioneers, Pathfinders and Producers by equipping them with smart, specialized and sustainable entrepreneurial insights. We intend to guide the younger generation the art and science of creating entrepreneurial ends with the informed use of redefined means. And importantly, with a guided interest for national benefits.
We want the light of entrepreneurship to so shine at homeland. I guess you would not mind doing this with us by simply supporting us.
Citizenship
Citizenship is more of proper social configuration than many things attached to it. The configuration is more or less a deliberate social programming that is really an in and out thing – just like the any application programming. So we can say that citizenship development is programming or developing the people for ‘National Applications’.
We must write and run our own ‘citizenship applications’ if we are thinking seriously of national transformation. We must right equations of equality and equity in the hearts of the people. By now we can see that citizenship is not really learnt in civic studies or social studies. It is a matter of passion and practice that comes from a conceived social dream – a national dream.
One major reason why the ideals of citizenship are abysmal at every level in Homeland is because we lack a defined national dream. I mean a conceived essence of citizenship that is strong enough to redirect our notions on brotherhood, neighbourhood and nationhood, as against the preconceptions that stem from ethnic, religious and political divides.
We will be taking the pivot of our citizen education programmes from the point of a dream of a new nation and the roles of citizen in the scheme of it.
We are simply paring national possibilities with individual responsibilities.

The Good Samaritan did something to kick-start a transformation process. He did not stay to do that in person but he stayed in kind. He ran the Transformation Unit in proxy. We can do same for Homeland. We can raise leaders all over from the Homeland Inn (Inverting New Nation).
You can make a huge difference by investing a token in thousands of the homeland youngsters to bring them to speed in Leadership, Entrepreneurship and Citizenship. You will see the sessions; you will see the participants (and have a word with them if you so wish) and you will be glad you did something for Nigeria.
Start Up
We have hope, and importantly, we are the hope. Arise O Compatriots, Arise O Diaspora Nigeria. Let us at least fight a fight of hope. Let us offer some hope.
We have seen that to the degree in which the four – Entrepreneurship, Leadership, Citizenship and Personal Development – coincide is one major factor that determines the kind of transformation the nations would witness. We want bend them perfectly here.
Our approach is to give the younger generation the right up-starts and the right starts-ups, that is, the intellectual skills and the starter means where and when necessary. We want to empower them intellectually for the transformative ends and power them with the means.
The basics of the terms will include submission to our mentorship and proprietorship, and admission to personal stewardship. We have programmes in place to monitor and evaluate these. We will encourage the strong and strengthen the weak.
Our start-up programme is designated for 200 participants within Lagos. We will advertise for and select 10 participants from each of the 20 Local Government Areas in Lagos. They will be taken on the Basic and Intermediate Modules of the LEC_PD programme.
All the participants will be thoroughly and professionally evaluated during and after the programme and the best participant from each LGA (total of 20) will be taken on the Advance LEC_PD programme. These twenty will be trained in the special skill entrepreneurial schemes after establishing their best fit from professional assessments and proficiency metrics.
Again, the best overall from this 20 will be given the platinum award. He will be trained and started up in a very highly skilled entrepreneurial business concept of his/her choice.
